DIY Hair Mask

Its been a long time since I tried a homemade hair care product!  I used to do it a lot back in the good old pre-Internet days when you learned these cool tricks from your mom and your grandma.  I think I was about fifteen the first time I washed my hair with beer (which works tremendously FYI).

So, the one that I tried last night was a two hour "hair mask."  Extremely simple and inexpensive to make.  Here are the ingredients for one treatment:

2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon cider vinegar

This mask is an over all nourishing mask.  You apply it, then keep a shower cap or plastic wrap over your hair for up to two hours.  Then, shampoo your hair as usual.

You can use the oil of your choice, be it olive oil, almond oil, corn oil, etc.  I used sunflower oil however, and I highly recommended.  Also, I recommend organic honey, however I used pure honey for this treatment.

I'm usually a pretty tough cookie for cosmetic sort of items.  If it doesn't show me some kind of immediate result, I probably won't use it again.  I was pretty skeptical about putting honey in my hair.  Truth be told, I saw an episode of Strawberry Shortcake recently where those silly little chicks put honey in their hair to try and prevent Lemon from moving away and it didn't go real well...  But, alas, I tried it anyway and I have to say, I am impressed.  The image above is directly before and directly following applying the mask.  Both show clean, brushed hair.  I also noticed that my hair retained the shine and softness all day following the treatment, which isn't normal.  My hair is coarse, and becomes more coarse and frizzy throughout the day.

I will definitely be using this treatment again.  It is recommended to use it twice a week until you obtain your desired results.  When I use it again, I plan to put it into a squeeze bottle and warm the bottle in hot water to make application easier!
